church history

The International Church of God (ICOG) has roots in Charleston dating back to 1927. From our humble beginnings of meeting in a tent in downtown Charleston on Tracey Street to our current site west of the Ashley, ICOG has been part of the spirit filled community in Charleston for 85 years. While we are proud of our heritage we are not resting on the laurels of our past. Rather we have a vision for the future that will impact our city for generations to come.

Through the years the name of our church has been changed from the King and Sumter Street Church of God to the West Ashley Church of God as we moved locations. But in February 2008 the name was changed to the International Church of God. This was enacted because we wanted our name to reflect who we are and not where we are. God has richly blessed us to have people of various ethnic groups and races that come together each Sunday for worship. If you would like to be a part of a church that reflects the heart of the Father, that we would all be as one, then a warm welcome awaits you.
